Tampa Entrepreneur Stops the Sting of Catching Baseballs and Softballs.
TAMPA, FL (Carrollwood) - Anyone who has played baseball or softball remembers the stings and pains associated with catching hard hit or thrown balls. Tampa native Jeff Greenhalgh, President of Glovemate Sports, Inc., a former professional baseball player, envisions his new sports product, Glovemate™, as standard equipment for baseball and softball players of all ages and levels.
Greenhalgh began the process to solve the "sting" problem in 1994. After making several design revisions, the final product was submitted to the U.S. Patent offices. In 1998 Greenhalgh received a full patent and now is building his business around the product. Professional and amateur baseball and softball players have long used sponges, rags and other cushion devices in their gloves to soften the catch. Catching hard hit or thrown balls have even been attributed to severe bone and vessel injuries.
"I suffered sore, bruised hands all throughout my playing days," said Glovemate™ inventor, Jeff Greenhalgh, a Leto High graduate. As a first baseman at the high school, collegiate and professional baseball levels, Greenhalgh grew accustomed to the constant sting and pain of catching balls. "The best ball-gloves are the ones that are "broken in," said Greenhalgh. "However, when ballgloves are "broken in" they generally provide less protection to your hand. Glovemate™ is so comfortable, players will forget they have it on, except when they don't feel the stinging pain of catching the ball."
Glovemate™ is recommended for all amateur and professional baseball and softball players and comes in left and right-handed models. Because one size fits all, it can be used by baseball and softball players of all ages and levels. Glovemate™ is being offered for retail for $6.95.
The Glovemate™ was debuted at the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association's (SGMA) Super Show in Atlanta this year. Since the Super Show, many stores, catalog and online sporting good retailers throughout the U.S. have planned their Glovemate™ orders for 2001. Greenhalgh's goal is to put the Glovemate™ in the hands of every baseball and softball player in the Country.
Said Greenhalgh, "Most people can't believe that nothing like the Glovemate™ has even been invented. Hopefully, future generations of baseball and softball players won't have the memories of stings and pains that we endured."
Greenhalgh is in the process of patenting several other sports related products which will be available in late 2001. For more information contact Glovemate Sports, Inc. President Jeff Greenhalgh at (813) 265-0313 or visit the website at www.glovemate.com
New Baseball / Softball Product Eliminates Pain, Stinging and Hand Injuries for Players.
Tampa, FL - The evolution of sporting goods equipment over the past 100 years has enhanced performance for athletes in many ways. But baseball and softball players still suffer the stinging pain and hand injuries from catching hard hit or thrown balls. Glovemate™ is the new baseball / softball product that effectively solves the problem.
Sure to become standard equipment for both sports, the Glovemate is made of leather and durable neoprene memory cushion that contours to the impact area of a player's hand. Held in place by a Velcro strap that fits around the index finger, the Glovemate applies in a fraction of a second and covers the palm's most vulnerable impact area. The Glovemate does not impede the flex action of a player's ballglove and there is no "trampoline effect" when catching a ball. The Glovemate has a leather tether that keeps the Glovemate attached to the players ballglove between innings and games.
Players have long used some sponges, rags and other cushion devices in their ballglove to solve the problem and soften the catch. Catching hard hit or thrown balls have been attributed from painful stings and swelling of the hand to severe bone and vessel injuries.
